Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 HFR Contest!

HFR’s 2024 poetry and fiction contest accepted submissions between February 1 to March 7, 2024. This year’s poetry judge was Diana Khoi Nguyen, author of Ghost Of and Root Fractures. This year’s fiction judge was Venita Blackburn, author of How to Wrestle a Girl and Dead in Long Beach, California.

The poetry winner, selected by Diana Khoi Nguyen, is David Joez Villaverde‘s “REDACTION.” The runner-up is DeeSoul Carson’s “Confession.”

The fiction winner, selected by Venita Blackburn, is Jody Chan’s “beginning, beginning, end.” The runner-up is Alex Connors’s “Spaceship.”

The two winners will receive an award of $1,500 and publication in Hayden’s Ferry Review (online in summer 2024 and in the fall/winter 2024 print issue). A runner-up in each genre will receive $250 and publication.

Congratulations also to all of our finalists and thank you to everyone you entered! This year’s finalists in poetry were Diya Abbas, Taylor Byas, Palm Nguyen, and jj peña. This year’s finalists in fiction were Charis Caputo, Rachel Ekstrom, Madison Loud, and Shelby Newsome.
