Yeah, yeah, yeah, Phoenix may not be New York or San Francisco, but we've got our fair share of fun art and literature events. We'll keep you posted of these events (and more!) in our sporadically updated review "So, what's there to do in Phoenix?"

ArtEvent: Midstream: New Ceramics from the Heartland

As if the photo posted above isn’t enough to incite your curiosity, the one below should have it fully captivated. What is it? A new exhibit from ASU Art Museum’s Ceramic Research Center, a center which aims to “define the front edge of experimental ceramic work.” This exhibit is based around regional ceramics of the Midwestern United States and features artists Teri Frame, Alex Hibbitt, and Liz Zacher.

The exhibit is open from August 23, 2008 – February 28, 2009. An open reception will be hosted at the Ceramic Research Center Friday, September 26th from 7-9 PM with a performance by Teri Frame at 7:30 PM. Come out, look around, and support the arts in Phoenix. I’ll definitely be there as I’ve just got to see that jellyfish room in person (though, hoping it doesn’t bear too much resemblance to the theme of one of my middle school dances—Under the Sea— but maybe it does for you. Don’t worry. We won’t ask questions).

The ASU Art Museum Ceramics Research Center is part of the Herberger College of the Arts at Arizona State University. The Ceramics Research Center is located on the northeast corner of Mill Avenue and 10th Street in Tempe and entry is free. Hours are 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday, 11a.m. – 5p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1-5p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (480) 965-2787 or visit online.
