Call for Submissions for Issue 53: DEPARTURE
When we think of departure, we typically think of leaving: forlorn goodbyes at the front door, waiting at the terminal for a delayed flight to board. We think of exoduses, of things we have left behind. Death is our final act of leaving, and those who have died are our dearly departed.
But departure is also inextricable from its opposite, for every departure implies an arrival somewhere else, implies the beginning of something new. Departure calls to mind variations and digressions we were not expecting, television shows that jump the shark, new enterprises and undertakings.
For issue #53, to be published in fall 2013, we want your stories, essays, poems, translations and photos about departure. Show us what it means to part ways, to diverge and deviate, to retreat, withdraw or disappear. Or, show us the reappearance, the arrival in an unfamiliar world. Take us somewhere we never could have imagined.
To submit, go to our Submittable page here and mention “Departure” in your cover letter. The deadline for this call is June 1, 2013. We look forward to reading your work!
