Artist Statement
I've obsessively drawn bows ever since I was a child. I've always been charmed by their asymmetric symmetry, their lopsided charm. In this series titled "Girlhood" I went back to my very first artist fixation. Using muted colors and rough brush strokes I aim to evoke a sense of solitude and vulnerability. The subject matter draws on themes of innocence and sexuality, the yellowed hues representing a sort of 'aging' of my childhood fascination. Fittingly, this is also the first set of paintings I've done after a three year hiatus from traditional mediums. I see it as a re-exploration of my own lived experience and art practice.
